This years U.S. PGA tour playoff is heating up among the big three of Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, Jordan Spieth from the U.S. and Jason Day from Australia.
Their fate was mixed last week at the playoff first stage at the Barclays Championships. McIlroy, who was out for the competition as he injured his ankle while playing soccer, regained world ranking No. 1 despite any effort. In contrast, Spieth who was the sole lead with two wins in majors this regular season dropped out and fell to world second place. Day, who had remained in third place, grabbed his second straight win at the final major competition PGA Championships.
At the Deutsche Bank Championship to open in TPC Boston in Maryland on Wednesday, the big three will gather, with each stars pride on the line. McIlroy, who had fallen to the 15th in FedEx Cup ranking due to his absence in the first stage, is gearing up to regain reputation. He had won consecutively at the 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship and playoff third stage in BMW Championship. Spieth, who had a chance to rest last week, is aiming to reverse the atmosphere with restored energy.
Day, who is enjoying his best days recently, became No. 1 in FedEx Cup ranking, raising hopes to get the 10 million-dollar bonus given to the winner. He will play at the same team with Spieth. He said McIlroy and Spieth are in his radar, saying that becoming No. 1 was his long cherished wish.
The results of this competition will change the rankings of the big three. Day and Spieth have gained four wins respectively at this seasons PGT tour, and competition for most wins is also a key point to watch.
