Seoul suggested working-level talks for separated families to Pyongyang

The South Korean government is said to have suggested to the North that the working-level talks of the South-North Red Cross be held at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom on Sept. 7 for meetings of separated families up for Chuseok. The suggested place is southern Panmunjom of “Peace House.”

“As agreed at high-level talks between the two Koreas, the notification under the name of Kim Sung-joo, the head of the Korean Red Cross, was sent to Kang Soo Rin, chairman of North Korea`s Red Cross Society’s Central Committee, at 9:50 a.m. through communication channel of the truce village so as to discuss issues related to separated families,” said spokesman Jeong Jun-hui at the Ministry of Unification.

It is expected that not just family reunions but also a total inspection on the list of separated families and the exchanges of the inspection results, which was suggested by President Park Geun-hye, would be tackled when Seoul’s suggestion is accepted by Pyongyang.
