A wedding picture has drawn attention on the social network service. A newly-wed couple, a husband in a tux and a bride wearing a wedding gown, posed for their wedding photos among the ruins of a war-torn city. The couple are Yilmaz Ali, 30, and his bride Evin Bederkhan, 21, who tied the knot on Aug. 15 in Kobane, a northern border town of Syria. “(Kobane) is our proud hometown and the city where my cousins were killed. I wanted to show that there are some people who stay put in the city,” the groom said in an email interview with the British media Daily Mail on Wednesday.

Kobane, which shares a border with Turkey, is a strategic location where the Kurds consist the majority of the population. The city was seized by ISIS militants in September last year. In January, Kurdish military force YPG drove out ISIS from the town after a four-month-long battle. However, tension is still high since ISIS fighters carried out swift attack on Kobane in June for four days, taking lives of 200 civilians.

The newly-wed couple lost their relatives in the battle in June. Ali is teaching children at a destroyed school. “Many families stay in Kobane failing to migrate to Europe for economic reasons. We will re-build the city of Kobane,” said the groom. "As the marriage means a new start, I just want to present an image of our city to people who are leaving it that they can build a new life out of all the death, destruction and terror.”
