A road in Seoul will be dedicated to Kim Byeong-ro (1887-1964), an independence fighter during the colonial era and the first chief justice at South Korea`s Supreme Court.

Seoul`s Dobong District said Thursday that the 640-meter-long road near Kim`s former residence in Chang-dong will be named "Gain Kim Byeong-ro Road" in his honor. Gain is Kim`s penname. The road is the third public facility named after him, following Gain Elementary School and Gain Underground Car Road.

The new naming of the Gain Kim Byeong-ro Road has been made at the request in March of Moon Yong-sun, head of the Seoul Bukbu District Court. Moon asked the ward office to give the road an honorary name in memory of the independence fighter and to enhance the ward`s image.

Lee Dong-jin, head of the Dobong ward office, said that he expects the new naming of the road to solidity the ward`s image as "a city of history and culture where history and the contemporary time coexist. He also promised to give honorary names to more roads in connection with the ward`s cultural projects as part of its efforts to promote local community`s culture.
