Forty seven sections of high ways and national roads extending 513 kilometers in total will be completed or expanded by year’s end.

According to the Land and Transport Ministry on Sunday, five sections of expressways (extending a total of 209 kilometers), state-assisted provincial roads, and metropolitan roads (a total of 304 kilometers) will be newly constructed or expanded by the end of the year.

The Pangyo-Yangjae section of the Gyeongbu Expressway where traffic delays frequently occur will be expanded from two-way eight lanes to 10 lanes from Thursday, while the Ansan-Iljik section of the Seohaean Expressway will be widened from six lanes to eight lanes around December.

A four-lane Ulsan-Pohang section of the Donghae Expressway will also be completed around December, while the Yeongdong-Okcheon section of the Gyeongbu Expressway will be expanded from four lanes to six lanes. Also, the two-lane Damyang-Seongsan section of the 88 Olympic Expressway will be expanded to four lands from November.

The ministry expects the sections will see a faster traffic flow by 5.6 - 18.7 kilometers per hour depending on sections.
