A Korean man was bitten by blue-ringed octopus, a poisonous blue-ringed octopus found in semitropical mode waters. Blue-ringed octopus contains "tetrodotoxin," the same poison found in blowfish, demanding particular care in the summer time. This was the first blue-ringed octopus case in Korea.

According to National Fisheries Research and Development`s semitropical fisheries research center Monday, a 38-year old man was treated after bitten by a blue-ringed octopus on June 10 on seashore rocks near the Hyeopjae beach, north of Jeju Island. While on a mud flat experience event, he found this octopus, held it on his hands when the octopus bit one of his fingers. The man called 119 and received first aid, but his hand bones continued to ache while he continued to feel dizzy. Then he inquired of his state to the semitropical fisheries research center.

Researcher Kim Jong-bin at National Fisheries Research and Development said, "According to academic reports, the blue-ringed octopus is 1,000 times poisonous compared to blowfish," adding, "Life can be in danger with just 1 milligram. You should never touch it with bare hands."
