"Rep. Jung Cheong-rae is indispensible to our party," wrote four-term lawmaker Shin Ki-nam, member of pro-Roh Moo-hyun faction of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy, on his Twitter account on Monday. With Jung having been sued by the main opposition party`s ethics screening body for racketeering and venomous tongue, Shin`s remarks supportive of Jung have deepened conflicts within the main opposition party.
"Were (former President) Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun normal politicians in their early days?" Shin said. "There are few people in the party as Jung who are popular among young people and netizens."
Kim Yong-min, co-host of podcast Naneun Ggomsuda who had unsuccessfully run for the 19th general elections due to incendiary words, also posted a message on his Twitter, "The Saenuri Party (and others) that had misled the May Gwangju uprising claiming it as a riot and North Korean military invention is using the same technique to corner Jung." On demands by the "assemblage for Democratic Party`s seizure of power" within the main opposition party that Jung should be charged, Kim said, "Did you know that there is a party called Democratic Party," adding, " Since it is a gathering to support other party take power, we should call it an "assemblage for Saenuri Party`s seizure of power."
"It is problematic to post a message defending Jung who has harmed the party. The pro-Roh faction has launched an action to rescue Jung and is attempting to make pro-Roh forces gather en masse online," a member from the non-Roh force said.
