Busan picked as `Korean Route 1` for tourism

"Korean Route 1" that comprehensively encompasses culture and industry of different regions, has been publicized. The Dong-A Ilbo, Channel A, and Korea Tourism Organization, picked Busan as Korean Route 1 on Wednesday and developed the tour course that collectively integrates Busan’s industry, shopping and culture.

Korean Routes are characterized by numbering of tourism districts such as Olle-gil route in Jeju in order to enable even foreigners to easily follow tourism routes in respective regions in Korea. Business activities in respective regions have also been included in routes to differentiate them from other tour courses. In collaboration with 10 members of advisory groups including tourism, marketing and community experts, the organizers of Korean Routes defined the concept of creative tourism for Korean Routes in respective regions, and enable tourists from Korea and overseas find fun and learning opportunities all at the same time. The government plans to publish "Creative tourism guides" based on Korean Routes, and distribute them to educational institutions and tourist information centers in Korea and overseas.

Busan is considered a place where the manufacturing industry, eateries, and trends started as a port city that opened Korea to the world. It is also a leading shopping hotspot. Since Korea’s liberation, "foreign products" were shipped into Gukje Market, which made the market the source of vogues. Currently, the world’s largest department store and shopping complex symbolize Busan as the "origin of trends" in Korea.
