Bournemouth promoted to the Premier League in 125 years

The AFC Bournemouth, a football club in England League Championship (second tier of English professional football), will be promoted to the top-flight Premier League for the first time in 125 years since its foundation.

Bournemouth secured a 3-0 win against the Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday (Korean time) leaving it in the second place with 87 points (+50 goal difference). With final match with the Charlton Athletic due May 2, Bournemouth is 19 goals ahead of third place Middlesbrough (84 points), making it a virtual No. 2. The top two teams in the League Championship are automatically promoted to the Premier League`s next season.

Founded in 1890, Bournemouth plunged to the fourth tier of the league in the 2007-2008 season. In 2009 it was on the verge of bankruptcy. Thereafter, it ranked second place in the 2009-2010 season fourth tier to promote to the third tier, and then to the second tier in the 2013-2014 season. Bournemouth`s promotion to Premier League is mainly the work of manager Eddie Howe who lays importance on attack. Under his helm, Bournemouth scored 95 goals this season, the most among all clubs in the league.
