Samsung Electronics will pre-install Microsoft mobile cloud service in most of its Android smartphones and tablets. If a business purchases a Samsung device in a business-to-business (B2B) channel, it will be able to use a cloud-based Office application combined with Samsung’s KNOX security service.

Samsung and Microsoft announced their partnership plan on smart devices on Tuesday. The two companies agreed to pre-install OneNote, a memo service, OneDrive, a storage service, and Skype, an Internet telephone service, on the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to be sold in April. An MS Office bundle, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, will be installed in tablets.

Samsung Android smartphones will also come with 100 GB of additional free cloud storage for two years through Microsoft OneDrive, in addition to 15 GB of basic free storage.

Businesses that purchase devices through Samsung`s business-to-business sales channels will have access to Office 365 coupled with Samsung`s KNOX security solution. Microsoft Office 365, powered by the cloud, provides businesses with access to Office applications, including email, videoconferencing and up-to-date documents, via any Internet-connected device. Samsung KNOX will help its customers keep documents secure.

Until now, general users had to download MS services in an app market to use them on Samsung’s smart devices. To use MS Office 365, businesses had to purchase the bundle from MS. The partnership between Samsung and MS will make Samsung smart device users much easier.

“Samsung Electronics, which was trying to reduce dependency on Google, and Microsoft, which tried to expand its market share in the mobile market dominated by Google, had a shared interest,” the electronics industry says.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella discussed partnership in Korea in September last year, and reached an agreement to end lawsuits over patents in February this year.
