Starting with Seogwipo in Jeju Island on March 24, cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in the southern area of the Korean Peninsula between March 28 and April 4, in the middle area between April 3 and 12, and in the northern area of Gyeonggi Province and the north of Gangwon Province or mountainous regions after April 12.

Cherry blossoms are expected to be in bloom in Seoul on around April 9. Jinhae in South Gyeongsang Province, a famous tourist attraction for its cherry blossom festival, will join the party on April 29, Ssanggye Temple’s 4 kilometers long cherry blossom walkway will start blooming on April 1, and cherry trees around the Gyeongju Bomun tourist complex in North Gyeongsang Province will be in blossom around on April 6, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

This is earlier than usual by one to three days and six days delayed than last year. The weather agency said, “The temperature of the first part of March was lower than usual. But the temperature in the middle and last week of the month is expected to be similar or slightly higher, which makes cherry blossoms bloom earlier than the average year.” Blooming means when a branch has three or more cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Considering that it usually takes one week from blooming to peak bloom, the peak bloom period would be around March 31 in Seogwipo, between April 4 and April 11 in the southern part of Korea, and between April 10 and April 19 in the middle area. In Seoul, cherry blossoms are expected to hit the peak on April 16.

The lowest temperature in Korea on Friday morning is expected to be minus 5 degrees Celsius up to 6 degrees Celsius. The day’s highest temperature is expected to be around 7 and 13 degrees Celsius. In Seoul, the lowest and highest temperatures are expected to be minus 1 degree Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius.
