Will Son Heung-min at the German Bundesliga (Bayer Leverkusen) be able to join the English Premier League in a not-so-distant future?

Rumors of Son moving to the Premier League surfaced in earnest from last year. The rumors were also quite detailed. Local media in England had reported that Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool prepared up to 20 million pounds (30.217 million U.S. dollars) each to recruit Son.

According to data from Transfermarkt, a German soccer information site, Son’s current market value amounts to 16 million euros (17.419 million dollars). Considering his young age and stellar performance in recent months, his market value is continuing to increase. Park Ji-sung, Korea’s first Premier Leaguer, also said at an event for his charity foundation last month, “Son Heung-min is constantly growing. If he continues to be what he is like now, he will come to make the list of players sought after for recruitment by major clubs at any time.”

Up until two years ago, Son’s move to a Big Club was deemed conditional that "only if he can prove his capacity." Things have changed now, however. The problem is that his contract with Leverkusen will remain valid through June 2018. If the 23-year-old is to move before the expiry of the contract, he needs an approval from his club.

When recruiting Son from Hamburg in June 2013, Leverkusen paid 10 million euros (10.88 million dollars) in transfer fee. If Leverkusen is to release Son, who is currently its flagship player, it should forge a deal that is "lucrative" to it, and the key is whether it can secure gains to this extent from a Premier League club.
