A survey found that Kimbap (Korean rice roll) is the most popular Korean street food chosen by the Japanese people.

The result was announced on Monday by the Korea Tourism Organization which surveyed some 80,000 Japanese Facebook followers for Korea’s “B-list Gourmet” from Feb. 3 through Mar. 8. The “B-list Gourmet” is a new Japanese term referring to cheap street foods. As a result, the survey excluded Korean traditional cuisine such as Bulgogi (Korean barbecue), Bibimbap (a bowl of rice with mixed vegetables and meat) and Samgyetang (Korean chicken soup).

Following Kimbap, Dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken), Hottek (Korean pancake with brown sugar filling) and Gyeranppang (Korean egg bread) were ranked high in the popular Korean food list. Then, Jukumi Bokkeum (baby octopus stir fry), Budae Jjigae (a spicy stew), Gopchang (grilled intestine of cattle or pigs), Bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) and Jajangmyeon (black bean noodle) followed suit. Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) was ranked 10th. The survey was conducted in a way that the participants post the pictures of Korean food that they took during their visit to Korea with the reason for their recommendation on the event page of the Japanese Facebook of the Korean Tourism Organization. Twenty foods were selected in a poll among 807 postings uploaded during the event period.
