Klay Thompson scores an NBA record 37 points in single quarter

Klay Thompson (25) of the Golden State Warriors has opened a new chapter in the National Basketball Association league of the U.S. At a home game against the Sacramento Kings held in Oakland, California on Saturday, Thompson scored 37 points in the third quarter alone, setting a new record in the number of points in a single quarter. The score is higher than the smallest score ever set by an entire team( 36 points, Hana KEB) in a game in the Korean women’s pro basketball league in the previous season.

Thompson, who played 12 minutes full-time in the third quarter tried 13 field shots and succeeded in all, demonstrating his goal scoring capacity that reached the zenith. The previous record was 33 points set in the 1977-1978 season by George Gervin of the San Antonio Spurs, and in the 2007-2008 season by Denver`s Carmelo Anthony (currently New York Knicks). Thompson also successfully garnered nine 3-pointers in the third quarter, a record ever scored in a single quarter.

He effectively led his team to victory by scoring 52 points single-handedly on the day. "As many spectacular things as Michael (Jordan) did, which he did nightly, I never saw him do that,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. "To be in the same breath as Michael Jordan, it`s crazy," Thompson said.
