North Korean leader’s younger sister is seen wearing a gold ring. North Korea’s state-run medium Rodong Sinmun on Friday published a photograph of Kim Yo Jong, who was accompanying Kim Jong Un on his visit to childcare facilities and an orphanage in Pyongyang. This prompted North Korea watchers to give weight to the rumor that Kim Yo Jong is married.

In the photograph, she was wearing a gold ring on the ring finger of her left hand. North Korean defectors said that a ring on the finger of the left hand symbolizes marriage. Kim Yo Jong, who is currently a deputy director of the Workers` Party, had before kept a distance from her older brother in public outings, but that day a quite clear picture of her was captured in the camera. She in a black top was wearing makeup on her face with curly permed hair.

The U.S. medium Radio Free Asia quoted a businessman, an ethnic Korean in China who visited Pyongyang in October 2014, as saying that “Kim Yo Jong was already married and her husband appeared to be working in the `Room 39,` which manages finances for the Kim family.” The cause of taking the unusual step of publishing a larger picture of Kim Yo Jong is thought by some analysts that it was to publicize the fact that she is married. A photograph of Kim Jong Un’s wife, Ri Sol Ju, wearing a ring on the ring finger of her left hand had been disclosed due to a report by state-run North Korean media in 2013.

The South Korean government is taking a cautious stance. A government official said they were “not aware of Kim Yo Jong is married nor if so, who her husband is.”
