The Chinese media are highlighting Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "hero." While they focused more on promoting former President Hu Jintao`s remarks and policies during his presidency, they are striving to highlight his humanistic character and outstanding leadership.

The Fujian Daily, an organ of Fujian Province, recently devoted its entire front pages for three consecutive days to articles on Xi after his two-day visit to the province. Most of them were about how Xi worked with the grassroots while serving as a provincial official for 17 years. On Wednesday, the China Youth Daily, an organ of the Communist Youth League of China, carried 10 articles that were compiled from stories it and other newspapers ran.

According to the paper, when Xi married then popular singer Peng Liyuan in 1987 while serving as the deputy mayor of Xiamen, Fujian Province, he rented just one table from a hotel for his wedding reception. Then, the couple and two friends went to Xi`s home for a drink after the reception, only to find that he had only four cups. Two of them for gargling. Peng hurriedly took the cups from the toilet and put them on the table after cleaning them. She went out to buy candy crumbs to be served to the guests.

When Xi took office as secretary of the Ningde Prefectural Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1988, he used the vehicle and driver he took over from his predecessor, unlike other senior party officials. He then ordered prefectural officials to cut public expenses for official vehicles, overseas trips and official entertainment expenses.
