During the Chinese National Day holiday (Oct 1-7), China’s biggest holiday in the autumn season, it is estimated that Chinese tourists spent approximately whopping 400 billion won (approximately 372 million U.S. dollars) in Korea.

According to the tentative statistics released by the Korea Tourism Organization on Friday, about 164,000 Chinese tourists visited Korea during this year`s Chinese National Day holiday. Compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists has been increased by 38.3 percent from 118,503 in 2013. Under the assumption that Chinese tourists spent the same amount of expenses as last year, 2,272 dollars per person, the total expenditure by Chinese tourists is estimated at 370 million dollars.

It is expected that the number of Chinese tourists to Korea will surpass the 5 million mark, as early as this month. “The number of Chinese tourists visiting Korea may exceed 6 million threshold by the end of this year.
