Cumulative sales of Hyundai and Kia Motor Group in China have surpassed 9 million units in 12 years since Hyundai and Kia respectively established a local production base in China in 2002. "Hyundai Speed," representing the fast response to the local market, such as market domination through the expansion of local production and the development of strategic models, is regarded as the secret for such fast growth in China.

According to Hyundai and Kia on Sunday, Beijing Hyundai has sold 812,399 units and Dongfeng Yueda Kia has sold 459,759 units, 1,272,158 units in total by September this year, and the cumulative sales have amounted to 9,064,945 units in the Chinese market for the past 12 years. Hyundai-Kia’s cumulative sales surpassed 9-million mark in seven months since it broke the 8-million threshold in February.

The Hyundai Avante MD (known as Langdon in the local market) showed the biggest sales this year, with sales volume of 179,139. The Hyundai Verna’ and the Avante HD (local name Yuedong) follow next with sales volume of 175,742 and 103,915, respectively. Among Kia cars, the K3 topped the list with 126,331, followed by the K2 with 110,462 and the Sportage R with 68,108.

Hyundai and Kia plan to increase the market share through the continuous launch of new models. Hyundai will launch the China-only compact SUV "ix25" in October and unveil the "LF Sonata" in the first half of the next year. Kia took the wraps off its mid-size sedan K4 in September.
