The term "global warming," which was intensively discussed at the United Nation Climate Summit 2014, is not as stimulating as it was before. It is like an idiomatic expression that is briefly used when people decide whether to put on a coat or not or when they buy a new car.

However, the writer gives a strong warning about the advent of a dystopia, looking back on what happened at times of sudden temperature changes of the earth`s atmosphere in the past. Reconstructing a large amount of academic materials, the author divided the content into seven chapters in the book. The first chapter is about a 1 degree Celsius rise in the earth`s temperate, while the second and third chapters deal with a 2 degrees Celsius and a 3 degrees Celsius increase, respectively.

An increase of the earth`s atmospheric temperate by just one degree centigrade would cause the icecaps on Mount Kilimanjaro and the Alps to disappear, while halving the alpine rain forests and bring about a worldwide draught. A two-degree rise in the temperature would cause frequent deluges and draughts, dwindling the population of phytoplankton and fishes and shells. A three-degree rise would cause residents in tropical and subtropical regions to migrate to other regions for food and places to live in. What would have in the event of a four- to six-degree rise in the temperature?

The last chapter is titled "The Future We Will Choose." The author argues that a global warming in a long-past era progressed over a period of 10,000 years but led to a catastrophe and that we have only a few decades left, urging the human race to start acting immediately to stop the global warming.
