Defeated and injured - Things got worse for Ryu
AUGUST 15, 2014 03:59
Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers got injured. The prospect of his next scheduled start became unclear.

Ryu motioned to the Dodgers dugout and reported his pain in the buttock muscle after issuing ball four to A.J. Upton in the bottom of the 6th inning, with 2 outs and one runner on first, of the Dodgers 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves in an away game at Turner Field of Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday. The official name of injury announced by Dodgers is a strained right gluteus muscle.

After the game, Ryu said, (The injury) is not related to pitching, and it is not a hamstring (tendons posterior thigh muscles) injury. When asked if he can start as scheduled in the next game, Ryu answered 밡ot sure. Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said the team would decide if Ryu is ready for his next turn after checking out his conditions based on the medical checkup. If Ryu misses the next game, Kevin Correia, who was traded from Minnesota, is a likely rotation replacement.

Thursday`s game left a lot to be desired for Ryu, who challenged 14th win of this season and 5th consecutive wins. Ryu blew an early 2-0 advantage in the beginning of the 2nd inning. But after allowing one run each in the 2nd and the 4th innings, Justin Upton`s single to right put the Braves up 3-2 in the 5th inning with runners on first and second. Dodgers batters weren뭪 much help to Ryu in avoiding the losing pitcher title in such good chances as the 6th inning, one out with one runner on third, or the 9th inning with the bases loaded with one out. Ryu gave up three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings on six hits and two walks to fall to 13-6 this season. He struck out seven, but his ERA went up from 3.21 to 3.28.
