Son Yeon-jae wins bronze at Sofia World Cup
AUGUST 11, 2014 07:16
Beautiful rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae (20, Yonsei University) talked about her hopes for gold at the September Incheon Asian games in Korea.

On Friday, Son won the bronze medal at the Fdration Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria, individual all-round with 17.600 for the ribbon, 17.550 for the hoop, 17.750 for the ball, and 17.350 for clubs, for a total of 70.250. She has won a berth in all four apparatus finals where the top eight scorers complete in all four disciplines.

This is a considerable improvement from her 10th-place finish with 67.733 (ribbon 17.816; clubs 17.433; hoop 17.133; and ball 15.350) at the FIG Minsk World Cup held in Minsk, Belarus from May 30 to June 1.

Starting with the Moscow Grand Prix in March, Son has medaled in all six events she entered. She has won a medal for 10 consecutive events in the FIG World Cup series beginning from the 2013 FIG Lisbon World Cup. This is the second individual all-round medal, aside from since the gold she won in the 2014 FIG Lisbon World Cup.

First-ranked was Yana Kudryavtseva (73.900, Russia), followed by Margarita Mamun (72.200, Russia). Deng Senyue of China, who is expected to battle with Son for the gold in the Incheon Asian Games this autumn, came in seventh. Her scores were: hoop 17.450; ball 17.450; clubs 16.250; and ribbon 17.000 for a total of 68.150. Japan뭩 Kaho Minagawa, who is currently improving rapidly, scored lower than Son with 61.600 overall (hoop 15.700; ball 15.800; clubs 14.800; ribbon 15.300).

Son, who won the bronze medal in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian games, vowed to get better results on home ground at this year`s Asian Games in Incheon.
