Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to meet Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, during his visit to Korea on July 3 and 4.

According to the business community on Sunday, President Xi will visit Samsung Electronics headquarters located in Suwon or Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. He is expected to meet with top management of the company including Vice Chairman Lee. The business community thinks that the Chinese leader will likely look around the “Samsung Innovation Museum (a museum on the past, present, and future of the electronics industry),” which opened in April, and facilities related to the semiconductor industry.

A source from the business community said, “Given the symbolic meaning of semiconductors in the IT industry and Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor factories in China, which have recently started operation, it is highly likely that he will tour facilities related to the semiconductor business.” As Samsung`s another primary business along with smartphones, Semiconductors are so critical that it is called the “staple of the electronics industry." In early last month, Samsung Electronics completed the construction of a semiconductor factory in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, the hometown of President Xi, where it started the production of NAND flash chips. Sources say that the Xi`an semiconductor plant is one of Samsung’s biggest projects in China with a total investment of seven billion U.S. dollars.

It is not President Xi’s first visit to Samsung Electronics headquarters. President Xi went to the headquarters in Suwon when he came to Korea as a secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee in 2005.
