More than 90 % of World Cup tickets already sold
JUNE 07, 2014 05:08
With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil nearing, about 2.9 million admission tickets have been sold as of Friday, FIFA said.

The Associated Press reported this by quoting a source at FIFA, which is preparing for the Brazil event. The World Cup finals provide a total of 3,720,225 tickets. Excluding the designated seats such as those for broadcasters, FIFA had planned to sell 2.98 million tickets. According to the world뭩 soccer governing body, there were requests to purchase 11 million tickets from around the world. Brazil뭩 domestic soccer fans have purchased 1.78 million tickets, 60 percent of the tickets up for grabs. U.S. fans have bought 197,000 tickets, the second in quantity.

Meanwhile, with the opening of the soccer extravaganza less than one week away, some of the stadiums are still under construction. Sao Paulo Arena Corinthians, the venue for the opening match at this year뭩 World Cup, was originally planned to accommodate 68,000 people, but since spectators seats are still under construction, about 61,000 will reportedly be admitted.
