Chelsea produces most World Cup players despite no European league title

Chelsea, a prestigious professional soccer club in England, won no title this past season. It finished the season by ranking third after Manchester City and Liverpool at the Premier League. It received no single title at the Cup championships and the UEFA Champions League. Despite this, Chelsea has acquired No. 1 title in one category among the pro soccer clubs worldwide. It is the very club that has produced the largest number of athletes that are to participate at the 2014 World Cup soccer finals in Brazil.

According to the lists of preliminary entries for the 32 countries that will compete in Brazil, Chelsea has produced a total of 18 players, a figure larger than that of any other single team, for this year뭩 World Cup. The Brazilian national team, considered a leading contender at the upcoming event, will have four players from Chelsea, including Oscar Emboaba, Willian Da Silva, Ramires Santos do Nascimento, and David Luiz. For the Spanish team that ranks atop in the FIFA rankings, Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta Tanco from Chelsea will play at the Brazil World Cup. For Belgium that belongs to Group H along with Korea, three Chelsea players will participate, including Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, and Thibaut Nicolas Marc Courtois. Courtois was hired by Atletico Madrid (Spain), and is currently playing in the Primera Liga. Chelsea players will also play for various other national teams, including England, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Ghana, Germany and Cameroon.

After Chelsea, Manchester United (England) and Bayern Munich (Germany) have produced 16 World Cup players each. Wayne Rooney, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick (players with England), Javier Hernndez (Mexico), and Robin van Persie (the Netherlands) hail from Manchester United. Munich has produced a number of German team players, including Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Thomas Mller, Mario Gtze, and Philipp Lahm.

Among the Korean pro soccer teams, Ulsan has produced three players including Kim Shin-wook, Lee Yong, and Kim Seung-gyu, to become the biggest producer.
