Korea ranks 33rd in per capita GDP: IMF
MAY 13, 2014 06:55
Korea`s per capita GDP stood at 24,300 U.S. dollars in 2013, ranking 33rd in the world. Its global ranking rose eight notches from five years earlier. According to the International Monetary Fund`s world economic outlook report Monday, Korea`s nominal per capita GDP was 24,329 dollars last year. Korea had ranked 41st in 2008, which rose to the 37th in 2009 and 2010, and then to 36th in 2011 and 34th in 2012.

IMF`s latest data is based on statistics before calculating GDP with a new methodology, which includes data of intellectual property and weapons stemming from R&D. The Bank of Korea announced in late March that Korea`s per capita GDP was at the 26,000 dollar level.

Luxembourg ranked first in 2013 with 110,423 dollars. Norway followed with 100,318 dollars, Qatar with 100,260 dollars and Switzerland with 81,323 dollars. Countries with similar per capita GDP as Korea were Oman (30th with 25,288 dollars), Saudi Arabia (31st with 24,847 dollars) and Cyprus (32nd with 24,761 dollars).
