Samsung 멒ear Fit features curved battery with world뭩 largest capacity
APRIL 16, 2014 03:02
Samsung SDI unveiled on Tuesday a curved battery with the largest capacity in the world, which is mounted in the "Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit." The Samsung Gear Fit is a wearable smartband that Samsung Electronics introduced to the global market on Friday last week. Developed by Samsung SDI, the battery with 210 mAh in capacity for the smartband boasts the largest storage volume in the world. It is up to five times the volume of the battery mounted in smartbands that are already in the market. The core element of this technology is to maximize the storage volume of a battery whose size is limited to conform to the exterior shape of smart bands, which is narrow in width and thin in thickness.

Samsung SDI achieved the curved design by using 뱇ayering technology, with which battery materials including anode and cathode are placed in multiple layers on ultra-small battery cells, a first in the industry. The Samsung Gear Fit adopts curved products for both the display and the battery to fit with the curved line of the wrist. The battery also incorporates new technology dubbed 밮-bending, in which the interior of the battery is bent in V-shape to increase the battery뭩 volume. It also comes with increased energy density. The Samsung Gear Fit allows the user to check text messages and emails in sync with smart devices such as smartphones or tablet PCs as well as health-related functions of the existing smartband, because the capacity of its battery that serves as the 밾eart of electronic devices has increased.

Samsung SDI said, 밯ith the wearable market poised to grow exponentially, we are constantly preparing curved battery technology for smartbands, predicting that demand for smartbands will be the most robust in the market.

According to ABI, a market survey firm in the wearable device field, the global wearable market is projected to expand more than 10 folds in 2018 from last year. Smartband products will account for 25 percent, or the largest portion of the overall wearable market.
