Timothy D. Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said the company will debut a new product category this year. Smartwatch iWatch with healthcare functions and new Apple TV are the rumored new product.

Apple will launch new products in new categories and the company is working on "really great stuff," according to an interview with Cook in Wall Street Journal on Sunday. When he was asked if it means new iterations of existing products such as the iPhone, Cook declined to comment. He just said that any "reasonable" person would consider what Apple is working on to be a new category.

U.S. media and industry experts expect Apple, who is almost certain to release iWatch by the end of this year, to reveal the product that combines healthcare applications. Apple executives are known to have discussed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December last year on mobile healthcare applications. New York Times recently reported that Bob Mansfield, Apple`s senior vice president for technologies, is directly engaged in the development of the smartwatch that monitors health conditions of the user while connecting with iPhone.

Apple is also rumored to have hired medical sensor development experts and scouted sleep experts last year. It is assumed that a function to assist sleep will be embedded in iWatch. New York Times said, "Apple is expected to announce the watch this year. It is widely expected that the watch will have a focus on health monitoring."
