Annual parliamentary audit to take place twice from 2014
JANUARY 24, 2014 06:23
The annual parliamentary audit, which has taken place once a year during the regular session of the National Assembly in fall, will be divided into two separate sessions from this year.

Yoon Sang-hyun, a deputy floor leader of the ruling Saenuri Party, said on Thursday, 밫he ruling and opposition parties have reached a tentative agreement on the measure to first conduct the parliamentary audit in June and do the overall inspection in September. Jung Sung-ho, a deputy floor leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, confirmed the agreement and said they were discussing a measure to hold the audit for 10 days in the first half and another 10 days in the latter half. Once the final agreement is made, the first parliamentary audit of this year will be scheduled after June 5 when the June 4 local elections end.

The change is interpreted as an effort to ensure the quality of the audit by separating it from the budget deliberation. Also behind this is the National Assembly Advancement Act, which has moved up the budget proposal submission date from 90 days to 120 days before the commencement of the fiscal year. So, there was a practical need to advance the audit period.
