IOC website highlights ice queen Yu-na
JANUARY 13, 2014 06:20
Is the International Olympic Committee betting on Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na becoming an Olympic legend?

The IOC highlighted the Korean figure skating sensation on its website by writing an article titled 밳una Kim, the Queen of the Rink. The article has been posted on the main page since last Thursday. This is significant given that articles of other sports stars are pulled down from the main page in just one day.

The IOC stated that Kim Yu-na 밼irst made her mark on the Olympic Winter Games with her outstanding performances on the ice at Vancouver 2010 and 뱒he returned in 2013 to win her second world title and is now gunning to become the first woman to retain back-to-back Olympic figure skating titles since Katarina Witt (East Germany, 1984 and 1988) in 1988 in the Sochi Winter Olympics. The article also introduced a behind-the-scenes story that when Kim captured the gold in Vancouver by setting up a world record and Guinness World Record of 228.56 points, her performance was hailed by the then IOC President Jacques Rogge. A video clip of her stunning performance at the Vancouver Olympics is also attached to the article.

The article describes Kim뭩 career path as a figure skater from her childhood until now in detail, including her role as a goodwill ambassador for Pyeongchang뭩 bid to stage the 2018 Winter Olympics. It also said that her status was founded on the elegance and technical prowess she displayed in executing triple Lutz-triple toe loop combinations, and now she is aiming to win the Olympic gold once again.

Ahead of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics four years ago, the IOC predicted that 밳una Kim of Korea and Mao Asada of Japan would compete for the gold. But the committee did not mention Asada this time.
