Preceding the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s largest consumer electronics fair to be opened on January 7 in Las Vegas, Samsung and LG, the two Korean electronics manufacturers, have started to release their new products. About 150,000 people from more than 3,000 businesses around the world including electronics, software and automobile makers converge on this annual show. Korean businesses are not an exception.

Samsung Electronics announced Tuesday that it would launch a smart TV application, which enables to watch photos of National Geographic, a global documentary magazine, on UHD (Ultra High Definition) TV. This application, the first TV app for the magazine, will allow people to enjoy 50 photographs selected in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the magazine’s publication on UHD TV. Samsung is to launch this app in January next year.

Some observers predict that Samsung will present a prototype of flexible TV whose screen can be easily adjusted from a flat one to a curved one. In fact, the company registered a patent on flexible TV whose curvature can be adjusted by remote control, in May in the United States.

LG Electronics is to showcase a premium IPS (In-Plane Switching) monitor in the 2014 CES to strengthen its global appeal. The company plans to display a 34-inch “Cineview” Monitor adopting the IPS panel. The Cineview monitor is suitable to watching videos such as films and online lectures because it takes on the aspect ratio of 21:9, same to that of the theater screen.
