Samsung C&T Corporation won a 1.3 trillion won (1.22 billion U.S. dollars) power plant project in Saudi Arabia. The company set a record high in overseas orders in the Korean construction industry by raking in 12.5 billion dollars from the global market this year.

Samsung C&T said on Monday that it won a 1.21 billion dollar order to build the Rabigh 2 power plant from Saudi Electricity Company.

It is a project to build a combined cycle, gas-powered power plant capable of generating 2,100 MW in Rabigh, which is 150 kilometers north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second largest city.

Samsung C&T has become the first Korean construction company to surpass 12.5 billion dollars in overseas orders. Hyundai Engineering & Construction had the highest record of 11 billion in 2010. Samsung C&T, however, set a new record this year after winning large deals including the high-rise Tanjong Pagar Center in Singapore (542 million dollars), the Roy Hill mine project in Australia (5.86 billion dollars), and the Riyadh subway construction project in Saudi Arabia (2.2 billion dollars).
