| Businessman and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates remained the richest American for the 20th year in a row.
According to Forbe`s 400 list of richest Americans Monday, Gates ranked No. 1 with total assets of 72 U.S. billion dollars, which was up 6 billion dollars from 2012 helped by rising Microsoft share prices. Gates has remained as the U.S. wealthiest person since 1994. At a Bloomberg Billionaires Index announced by Bloomberg in May, Gates regained his title as richest man in the world in six years, beating Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim.
Taking the No. 2 spot on Forbes` list was Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, who is worth 58.5 billion dollars. Following behind him is Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, with assets worth 41 billion dollars. No. 4 ranking were Charles Koch and David Koch, co-owner of energy firm Koch Industry, each worth 36 billion dollars. Walmart`s founding family ranked from sixth to ninth. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg ranked 10th with 31 billion dollars.
