Pension fund warns mobile phone users of scam message
MARCH 11, 2013 03:40
The National Pension Service warned mobile phone users to stay vigilant against fake text messages disguised as those from the agency to cheat people into making small amounts of mobile phone payments.

The pension service said Sunday, “A false mobile phone message reading ‘Your national pension premium has not been paid. Please check. From National Pension Service Call Center 1355,’ is being sent en masse by an unidentified sender. Please do not fall for this scam.”

The text message first appeared in Busan Tuesday, and has been rapidly spreading across the nation. More than 80 such cases were reported to the pension agency`s call center through Friday. The message contains a Web address linked to a website, and if a user clicks the message, a malicious app is installed on the user’s smartphone and induces him or her to input personal information on the site.

The pension agency reported the scam to the National Intelligence Service’s cyber security center via the Health and Welfare Ministry and requested a block of the IP address of the site in question. A pension service source said, “The agency has never sent such a text message, which is believed to be a scam to steal personal information. Please don`t access the website or dial the sender’s contact number.”
