Warning on endangered butterfly species
.
FEBRUARY 01, 2013 03:54.
.
According to Korea National Park Service on Thursday, 30 of 158 species of butterflies, or 18 percent, are likely to grow extinct before 2080 based on its predictions for the changing patterns of their distribution in the country based on a climate change. Due to the rise in the average summer temperature, the 30 species, including the blue triangle butterfly, fixsenia pruni and lymphalidae, are expected to gradually decrease in number before extinction in Korea. Butterflies are more sensitive to weather than other flora or fauna. The park service plans to study endangered butterfly species for a long time to analyze the impact of climate change on the ecosystem.
