A long-time secretary to outgoing Chinese President Hu Jintao will be appointed head of the General Office in the Central Military Commission, China`s highest-ranking military organ, a Hong Kong daily said Monday.
Hu will also likely hold onto his position as commission chairman after the Chinese Communist Party`s 18th National Congress next month.
The Hong Kong newspaper Mingpao said Chen Shiju, director of the presidential office, will be designated head of the General Office in the commission quoting a Chinese military website. The office controls all general affairs, including meetings of the commission, so Hu`s command over the armed forces is expected to be strengthened.
A native of Guizhou province, Chen has served as Hu`s secretary since 1985, when he was a newly minted graduate from Guizhou University with a degree in Chinese literature. Little information is available about Chen due to his quiet character.
