Groundbreaking for New U.S. Army Base

On hand for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek are General Burwell Baxter Bell, commander of U.S. troops in South Korea, Alexander Vershbow, the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, South Korean Defense Minster Kim Jang-soo, and Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo. Defense Minister Kim said, “The global security environment is changing rapidly, and we need a more mature ROK-US alliance to dynamically cope with the change. This new base will be the first step in that direction.”
