Korean Documentary Director Wins Award in Mexico

Lim Eun-hee (35) won the best documentary award for her work “Ser isla” at the Ariel Awards, the Mexican Academy of Film’s award ceremony.

Lim, who is currently attending a film school in Mexico, directed a 67 minute-long documentary about prejudice against people with Hansen`s disease living in Sorok Island in Korea.

The film is set in Sorok Island where Lim spent a month shooting the documentary. The documentary was also awarded the Fipresci best Mexican feature in “FICCO 2007,” the Mexico City International Contemporary Film Festival.

Lim said while shooting the film, she asked related authorities of Korea and companies to support the production, but to no avail. She instead was helped by Japanese companies.
