North Korean cheering beauties popular among spectators

At Daegue stadium, the first match between North Korea and Denmark of the group B for male preliminary volleyball games was held. As soon as 302 North Korean cheering beauties went on their first outing, 4,000 spectators including `North Korean Team Supporters organized by Dalsung-Lovers`, ` Arirang Cheering Squad by Citizens` Alliance for Unification ` and `Daegue Bank`s North Korean Supporters` joined them to loot together.

When the North Korean squad, seated on upper stands, started looting with the so-called `clappers` in an orderly way, all spectators watched every move of the girls.

When the Denmark team took the lead over North Korean to finish the first match by 22 to 25, spectators encouraged the North Korea players shouting `Cheer up!`. Then the North Korean cheering squad cried "We are one!" chanting after their leader Kim Eun-bok(Junior at Pyongyang Jang Chul-gu Commercial College).

The atmosphere reached its climax as the North Korean team won four sets by 26 to 24, tying with their opposing team at 2-2. When the girls from the North shouted `we are`, spectators responded shouting back `one.` Then they sang together the song `national unification.`

The North and South Koreans became so intimated with each other that when the cheering squad sang looting songs such as `maiden days`, `Onghye-ya`, `youth`, `higher` and `How do you do`, South Korean spectators chanted them together. The songs were popular also during the last year`s Busan Asian games.

Despite the united looting by North and South Koreans, the North defeated losing the final fifth match by 9-15 to mark set scores of 2-3.

All North Korean players were from Kim Hyung-jik Education College. Kim Doo-won(44, sports team of Pyongyang Agriculture College), North Korean team`s technical coach said, "Our team is good enough to win the Republic cup games, the biggest volleyball game in North Korea. We couldn`t fully exert our skills since we had started practicing only one month ago."

The cheering squad`s Lim Sung-ok(senior at Kim Hyung-jik Education colleage), who was popular among spectators for her prominent beauty, comforted the spectators, saying "We can win a game and lose a game. Since North and South Koreans are all looting together, we will win next time. Let`s cheer up."

The North Korean looting squad left the stadium after cheering for South Korean players during a South Korea-Serbia match, following the North Korea-Denmark game.
