Korean pianist Cho Seong-jin, winner of this year’s International Chopin Piano Competition, will release his live competition album Friday, and Korean distributor Universal will be shooting an unprecedented 50,000 pieces of them.

“Online preorders and store orders have topped 10,000 pieces already, and we expect to sell 50,000 pieces considering additional order estimations and preparatory pieces," Universal said. Normally, domestic and foreign famous musicians or vocalists sell around 2,000 initially.

“Cho ranked No. 1 at major online sites’ album charts with just preorders, and we are getting more than 100 phone calls a day,” a source from Universal said. “Among classic albums Universal has distributed in the past 10 years, 70,000 pieces of the OST of Korean drama `Beethoven Virus` were sold, a record number so far. We expect Cho’s album to break the record.”

Cho`s album will contain Nocturne in C Minor Op 48 (preliminary round and final round stage 1), Piano Sonata No. 2 in B Flat Minor Op. 35 (final round stage 2) and Scherzo No. 2 in B Flat Minor Op. 31 (final round stage 3).

Classical music label Deutsche Grammophon that is releasing the album said, “We excluded Cho’s grand finale song Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 because we wanted to select works that capture Cho’s piano performance without an orchestra.”
