"Get out of my way, the time. I am still young.”

This is a part of lyrics from Korean pop singer Oh Seung-geun’s ‘I Am Still Young,’ one of the most popular songs that Koreans love to sing. As the lyrics goes, nine out of 10 people in middle and old age between 55 and 79 feel that they are younger than their actual age by nine years, according to Samsung Life Insurance Retirement Research Institute’s survey results released on Thursday.

The survey was conducted of 500 male and female respondents aged between 55 and 79 living in Seoul and six metropolitan cities on the subjective age that people think of themselves as being.

In the survey, respondents were asked "how old they feel about themselves," "what age do you think you look," "what age do you act like," and what age would likely share your interests or matters of concern."

The survey results show that 88 percent of the respondents answered they think they are younger than their actual age. Some 11 percent said they look similar to their own age, and only 1 percent responded that they feel they are older than the actual age. People in 50s believed they are younger than their age by 8.2 years in average, people in 60s and 70s said by 8.6 and 9.2 years, respectively. The subjective age that the respondents thought was closely related to the physical health. People in good health perceived themselves younger than those in poor health by 3.8 years in average.
