Cyndi Lauper, a popular American pop star of the 1980s, will hold her first concerts in South Korea in 26 years. She is known for her 1980s hit songs such as "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" and "She Bop," among others.

The concerts will take place at the Olympic Park in southern Seoul on January 23 and 24, YESCOM Ent., the organizer of the shows, said.

Lauper rocketed to stardom in 1983 with her debut album "She`s So Unusual," in which four songs ranked among the top five hits in the Billboard Singles Charts.

With her flamboyant fashion and hair styles and the image as a sensual and powerful girl, she rivaled Madonna in the early years of MTV, which opened in 1981.

Lauper had her first concert in Seoul on October 2, 1989. The upcoming concerts are held as part of her world tour marking the 30th anniversary of her debut.

Lauper won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for hit Broadway musical "Kinky Boots" in 2013 and performs on various stages around the world, including the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan.

She steadily released new albums at one to five-year intervals until the 2010 album "Memphis Blues" and a remastered edition of her debut album this year.
