ListenListen
NOVEMBER 25, 2008 03:07
A retrospective of the films made by the late French director Louis Malle will open Thursday in Cinema Cinecube in downtown Seoul.

Malle made his film debut with the feature "Elevator to the Gallows (1958)," which shot him to fame. He sought to portray the themes of human desire transgressing the boundaries of social taboos.

"Le Souffle au Coeur (Murmur of the Heart)," which will open the retrospective, is a 1971 film that depicts an accidental incestuous relationship. "Damage (1992)" is about a man who falls passionately in love with his son`s fiancée.

"Lacombe, Lucien (1974)" will be screened Dec. 4 and "Goodbye, Children (1987)" Dec. 24. Both films tell the stories of children in Nazi-occupied France in World War II, raising fundamental questions on the human conscience.
