Musicals are live shows performed on the stage that actors fill with power and energy in music. As the musical shows characteristics and unique voices of actors, those on the stage feel great pressure. Especially, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ in which Korean musical actor Park Eun-tae plays the role of Jesus, shows different charms depending on who starred on the stage. As the musical is led by great amount of tension between Jesus and Judah standing at antipodes, who performs what may change the atmosphere greatly.

Audience need to feel the power of music, not paying too much attention to characteristics of actors. ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ a song through musical (in which the story is developed by songs in lieu of dialogues) is driven by power of music starting from the prelude in the opening to the curtain call at the end. ‘Gethsemane’ that Park sings solo is a song that requires high level of performance. The song reveals emotions of Jesus who anguish pains that he can’t handle. “When I feel that audiences are immersed in my songs and the musical, I feel thrilled,” said Park.

Park said everyone can enjoy ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ that depicts stories of Jesus and his 12 disciples, regardless of whether the person believes in a religion or not. Musical fans can enjoy it as a representative rock opera made by Andrew Lloyd Webber who also created ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Cats.’ Religious people can watch it as a biblical drama or a religious one. Dramatic elements such as modern style songs and details of characters are attractive, said Park. He didn’t forget saying that this ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ could be the last performance in Korea.
