The 23rd FEBC national gospel contest will take place at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul at 7 p.m. on August 31.

The contest was initiated in 1981, when FEBC, or Far East Broadcasting Company, marked its 25th anniversary. Since then, the contest has produced stars of the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) genre that is based on the Protestant Church, while spearheading a new music culture.

This year’s event will take place with the view to breathe in harmony with the world, going beyond being a cultural festival only for Christians. Sohyang, who has become a star singer after hailing from CCM, and the Seoul City Musical Troupe will display a gala show. The contest also includes an event wherein people from diverse walks of life including North Korean defectors and multicultural families are invited to form harmony together.

A total of 10 teams, who passed the preliminary round, will vie for victory at the contest. Singers who will perform include "Ainos," a college student band; and "Showmust," a band whose entire members are musical singers; and "Hessed," who will perform husky voice R&B.

“This year’s contest will showcase diverse genres of music under the theme of gospel,” FEBC President Han Ki-boong said. “It will not be merely a competition but a venue for harmony.”
