Prof. Sandel becomes honorary Seoul citizen

Prof. Michael Sandel at Harvard University, the author of "Justice," has become an honorary citizen of Seoul City. He received a certificate of honorary Seoul citizen from Mayor Park Won-soon at the city hall on Friday. After receiving the certificate, the U.S. political philosopher said, “I am proud to be an honorary citizen of Seoul City."

He visited Korea to attend the 2014 Dong-A Business Forum, which was jointly hosted by The Dong-A Ilbo and its sister TV station Channel A on Wednesday and Thursday Prof. Sandel became a Seoul citizen one and a half years after the Seoul mayor proposed an honorary citizenship to the professor at the World Strategy Forum held in Seoul in June last year.

An honorary citizen of Seoul can be invited as a VIP guest to city events, and is given free access to all cultural facilities under the city government, such as Seoul Grand Park and Seoul Museum of Art. When an honorary citizen reaches age 65, he or she can get free subway ride, for which Sandal will be eligible four years later.
