Retired soccer player Cha Du-ri topped K-league All-Star votes

FC Seoul’s Cha Du-ri (picture) was named as the most beloved soccer player by the local soccer league fans in the K-League All-Star voting.

According to the fan voting results released on Jun. 30 by the Korea Professional Football League, Cha topped the entire list with the largest votes of 125,929, followed by Kim Seung-dae of Pohang Steelers (118,457) and Lee Jae-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (117,761).

In the midfielder section, Yeom Ki-hoon playing at Suwon Samsung Bluewings (115,868 votes), Kim Seung-dae and Lee Jae-sung were ranked first respectively in the left, right and center positions. For the striker, Lee Dong-gook took the top spot with 117,363 votes and Eduardo Goncalves de Oliveira came in the second with 100,196 votes. In the defender section, Hong Cheol of Suwon Samsung Bluewings (84,416 votes), Cha Du-ri and Kim Hyeong-il (Jeonguk, 108,221 votes) topped the list in the left, right and center positions. Among goalkeepers, Kim Seung-kyu of Ulsan Hyundai FC (98,384 votes) was named as the best goalie. Among 22 soccer players selected by fan voting, Jeonbuk players made up the biggest number of seven.

K-League All-Star players will be confirmed based on the fan voting results (70%) and votes (30%) by coaches and captains of 12 K-League teams. Selected players will be divided into two teams respectively coached by National football team coach Uli Stielike and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors coach Choi Kang-hee. The two team will have a match in the Ansan Wa Stadium at 7 PM on July 17.
