`Civil servant marathon runner` Yuki Kawauchi runs again in Seoul

“Civil servant marathon runner” Yuki Kawauchi (aged 28, photo) will run in Seoul International Marathon in two years. He came to prominence in 2013 Seoul International Marathon when he ran as an incumbent public servant. Back then, he was ranked 4th with his personal best of 2:08:14 in international men’s field. It is said that he made up his mind to push the envelope again in Seoul where he had his personal best record.

Currently working full-time for a high school at Saitama Prefecture, he continues his running practice before or after working hours. He believes that it suits the best for him to work as a public official and practice as a runner at the same time. His theory is that practicing all day doesn’t improve the record. Kawauchi won the bronze medal in 2:12:42 at the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014.

“Seoul International Marathon is a renowned running competition with gold level of International Association of Athletics Federations. Many African runners with good records are participating as well. I just wanted to test myself to see where I’m standing as a marathon runner,” said Kawauchi. “No time difference between Japan and Korea is a big advantage for me. I want to renew my record once again in Seoul.”
