Lee Bong-ju’s 36th Full Marathon Will Be in Chicago
SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 03:11
Korea’s star marathoner Lee Bong-ju (37, Samsung Electronics) will run his 36th full course marathon in six months at the 30th Chicago Marathon, which will be held in Chicago on October 7.

Lee Bong-ju originally planned to participate in the New York Marathon in November, but after researching the Beijing Olympics marathon course last month, he changed his plan and decided to run the Chicago Marathon, which has a flat course similar to that of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games course.

Lee recently completed the 2007 Seoul International Marathon (78th Dong-A Marathon) in March in which he set a record for a Korean in national marathon events with a time of 2:08:04.

The Chicago Marathon has been recognized one of the world’s five leading marathons, along with London, Boston, Berlin, and New York races. Chicago is home to the world record time of 2:05:42 set by Khalid Khannouchi (U.S.) in 1999 and the women`s world record in both 2001 and 2002.

Lee Bong-ju will leave for Chicago on September 28 after having a training session from September 10 in Gongju.
