The national team has started its training for the November 17 2006 German World Cup second tryout Group Seven league final with Maldives yesterday at the National Football Training Center (NFC) in Paju. Players were tired due to the K league match the day before and so the first day’s training started with light jogging and ended after 90 minutes.

There were only 13 players present as players of foreign teams could not join due to their match schedules. Among them, Kim Jin-gu (19) of the Jeonnam Dragons, the youngest defender on the team, received the most highlights.

Kim wore both youth and Olympic national team uniforms this year and came up as the next superstar of Korean football. However, he did not have any match luck, being called “the red card boy.”

Early this year, he was sent out with two yellow cards in a match against Paraguay and was given a two game suspension for using his third finger in the 2004 Asian Cup against Iran. He was again sent out with a red card in the AFC Youth Championship against Yemen in September.

However, this strong will to win has impressed Bonfrere to write his name on the list of players for the match against Maldives.

Kim Jin-gu, who played full time iron wall defense with Kim Tae-young in a match against Ulsan Hyundai on November 10, said, “I learnt a lot from Tae-young. I will practice really hard to play as a starter in the 2006 German World Cup.”
