Actor Leonard Nimoy, who was known for his role as "Mr. Spock," a half-human half-alien first officer with pointy ears in the NBC TV series "Star Trek," died at 83 at his home in Los Angeles.

Born in 1931 from a Jewish immigrant family that moved from Ukraine to Boston, the U.S., Nimoy gained world-wide fame from his role as Spock. He was loved by many people for his strict and reasonable character in Star Trek of which first episode was aired in September 1966.

Besides acting, Nimoy also had many talents and occupations as poet, photographer, and director but the public always remembered him as Spock. Nimoy wrote a biography titled "I Am Not Spock" In 1975, but he accepted the fact that his greatest prominence came from the TV series role and published another biography "I Am Spock" in 1995.

Although he quit smoking 30 years ago, Nimoy died of lung diseases. “Don`t smoke. I did. Wish I never had. LLAP,” Nimoy’s last tweet on Feb. 14, became his last words to the public. LLAP is an acronym of Live Long and Prosper, Spock’s Vulcan salute in Star Trek.
